Celebrating Ukrainian Cinema. Screening of Klondike

Screening of Klondike

In purpose of celebrating Ukrainian cinema and discussing further meaningful forms of supporting local talent during the war, EWA Network joined solid pool of European partners in co-hosting exclusive screening of Klondike directed by Ms Maryna Er Gorbach, on Tuesday 19 April at Cinema Galeries. The event was proposed by EFAD (European association of national Film Agencies), in partnership with European associations in the culture and audiovisual sector: CEDO, CICAE, Cineuropa, Europa Distribution, Europa International, EFA, EPC, FERA, SAA, UNIC.

Klondike is an multi-awarded festival favorite since its Sundance launch earlier in 2022. The Ukrainian-Turkish coproduction brings formally mesmerizing vision of the ongoing war in Donbass (2014) and depicts severe impact of the conflict on the region’s civilians — in particular, the innocent women to whom the film is dedicated.

Tamara Tatishvili, Strategy Manager of EWA Network hosted the event on behalf of all partners. The event started with short intro speeches welcoming film talent: director of the film Maryna Er Gorbach as well as its producer Mehmet Bahadir Er. In addition, the floor was taken by Political Adviser on media and content policy to the Minister of Media and Culture B. Linard chez Gouvernement de Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Natalia Anoshyna, Counsellor, Embassy of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Belgium and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The screening brought audience to emotionally charged Q & A session with the team of the film. Animated by Tamara, audience learned more about the making of the film, importance of keeping Ukrainian voices heard internationally and future plans of the filmmakers.
Klondike will be released in Belgium by MOOV distribution later in 2022.
