MEETING IN STOCKHOLM TO EXPLORE SOLUTIONS TO THE GENDER PAY GAP IN THE SCREEN INDUSTRIES
EWA Network and UNI Europa will be leading a capacity-building session on the gender pay gap, in Stockholm, from November 8-10th. This session will bring together colleagues from a wide network of organisations, including (but not limited to) unions active in the screen industries, professional organisations representing directors and producers, CIMA Asociacion de Mujeres Cineastas, Vrouwen in Beeld (Women in the Picture), Society of Audiovisal Authors (SAA), and others. EWA will be represented by Edel Brosnan, Director of Strategy and Petri Kemppinen, EWA board member.
The session is part of a project that started in August 2022 and will run until July 2024. It is co-funded by the European Union (Project 101048758 — Equal pay and equal career opportunities for women professionals in European audiovisual productions).
The specific objectives of the project are:
• Analyse and understand the reasons that lead to gender inequalities in pay
and career progression in the European audiovisual industry;
• Empower trade unions and other key sector stakeholders with resources and
tools to reduce the gender pay gap and correct other sources of inequalities
between female and male professionals in the European audiovisual industry;
• Promote a change of culture in the European audiovisual sector at large through research, information and exchange.
In December 2022, EWA and UNI Europa co-hosted a consultation meeting in Brussels to collect existing information (data, studies, policy frameworks, etc.) and to discuss with sector professionals the state-of-play and realities on the ground.
We will continue the work through online and face-to face sessions in 2024. Keep an eye on our newsletter for further updates in the coming months.
