Women head most of departments in Too Far Away, by Sarah Winkenstette, which is nominated for Best European Children's Film of the Year, to be awarded during the Berlinale.

Too Far Away will be screened in Berlinale on Friday, 28.02., 12:15 pm in the cinema Cubix 2, in the LOLA section.

Directed by Sarah Winkenstette, the film includes female filmmakers in many of the key positions, since it's also penned by Susanne Finken; Milena Klemke and Yvonne Wellie are the delegate producers at Weydemann Bros.

Furthermore, cinematographer Monika Plura,  editor Nicole Kortlüke, art designer Susanna Haneder, costume designer Birgit Loth, Make Up Artist Daniela Brinkmann and Casting Directors Susanne Ritter (Ritter Casting), Phillis Dayanir and Johanna Hellwig (Dayanir & Hellwig Casting) complete the crew of the production.

The movie was shot in 2018 and since Summer 2019 it has succesfully travelled through the biggest and most important children film festivals worldwide, e.g. Giffoni Int. Film Festival, Int. Childrens Film Festival Chicago, Zlin Film Festival, Cinekid Amsterdam and many more, winning numerous prizes including two ECFA Awards (Smile Int. Film Festival India, Oulu Int. Children&Youth Film Festival), the Prize of the Goehte Institute and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at Schlingel Int. Film Festival, the Best Children’s Film Award at Zürich Int. Film Festival just to name a few.

In March 2020 the movie will be theatrically released in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Luxemburg. The film has been preselected for the German Film Awards in the category Children’s Movie.

Synopsis:

Ben and his family have to move to the nearby city, because an open brown coal pit will swallow their village soon. Ben meets Tariq, a Syrian refugee. The two start out as com- petitors - at school and at the football club - but soon fnd out that they have more in common than they thought they would.
