WiFT – Atlantic – 5th Women Making Waves in Halifax

Women in Film and Television - Atlantic rolls out its 5th anniversary edition of Women Making Waves, February 27- March 1 in Halifax.

Launching at this year’s conference is the BravoFACT WIFT-AT Pitch Contest, which welcomes female WIFT-AT members to pitch their short doc or fiction film for a chance to win a $35,000 award.

One of the goals for WIFT-AT is to generate industry opportunities for our members to create content for the screen,” said Jan Miller, Founding Chair of WIFT-Atlantic. “This is a remarkable opportunity that BravoFACT is offering WIFT-AT members from all four Atlantic Provinces.”

Qualified applicants are invited to submit their applications, no later than Friday, February 6 at 5 p.m. E.T., to rachel.feldbloomwood@bellmedia.ca. Five lucky finalists will make their public pitches to a jury comprising industry members as part of WMW’s programming on Saturday, February 28. The winner of the $35K grant will be announced at the Sunday WAVE Awards Brunch on March 1. For more information and contest rules, applicants can visit here.

WIFT-AT also invites nominations for its coveted annual WAVE Awards. The WAVE Awards honour the remarkable, dedicated women in our industry. They are open to all women working in the film industry, from seasoned screenwriters to emerging editors. Men and women can nominate a woman for a WAVE Award. Nominations are due by Monday, February 2 and can be submitted by email to awards.wift.at@gmail.com.

A Conference Launch event will be held in Halifax on Friday, January 16 at The Stubborn Goat Gastropub from 5-7pm. WIFT-AT will preview key speakers, programming and introduce their new partnership with the Artists’ Legal Information Society (ALIS) and their upcoming conference On The Edge of Now.
