Capacity-building session on the Gender Pay Gap

MEETING IN STOCKHOLM TO EXPLORE SOLUTIONS TO  THE GENDER PAY GAP IN THE SCREEN INDUSTRIES

EWA Network and UNI-Europa co-hosted a two-day roundtable session at Stockholm's iconic Filmhuset, to look at practical, real-world strategies for reducing the gender pay gap in Europe's audiovisual industries. Edel Brosnan, director of strategy for EWA, and EWA board member Petri Kemppinen represented EWA Network, Special thanks to Daphné Tepper, Uni Europa's director of policy, and to our facilitator Sarah Diedro Joadao.

After two intense days, comparing notes, exchanging ideas and exploring practical solutions that will work for small-scale production companies as well as big broadcasters, we came away with fresh ideas on how to raise awareness of this burning issue that affects all women working in our sector - and to ensure that we translate this awareness into practical, concrete actions. We could not have done it without the representatives who joined us from unions, foundations and associations from Austria, Belgium, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and Sweden.

Our thanks again to CIMA (Asociación de Mujeres Cineastas), CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée), EFAD (European Film Agency Directors Association) Fackförbundet Scen & Film, FERA (Federation of European Screen Directors), FIA (International Federation of Actors), FNV Cultuur, Mediarte, Prakicum, Raising Films Ireland, SAA (Society of Audiovisual Authors), Screen Guilds of Ireland, Screen Producers Ireland, Unionen, and Vrouwen in Beeld (Women in the Picture).

We'll be sharing our insights and recommendations at the EWA Network event at the Berlinale in early 2024
