EwA Network in the ANTI-RACISM TASK FORCE for European Films

EWA Network joins the Anti-racism Task Force, ARTEF

ARTEF is a taskforce to tackle institutional racism in the European film industry.

“The system of white supremacy was not created by anyone who is alive today. But it is maintained and upheld by everyone who holds white privilege.” Layla F.Saad, Me and White Supremacy: How to recognise your privilege, combat racism and change the world (2020).

In the Summer of 2020, a group of European film industry professionals gathered to form ARTEF = Anti-Racism Taskforce for European Film.

EWA Network is a proud partner of ARTEF, whose main aim is to dismantle racist structures and combat all forms of racism in the European film industry. The structural racism has been existing in our industry since its very start, and to fight it, it's required the active participation of the whole community.

Everyone in the European Film Industry who wants to be part of the change they want to see is welcome to join ARTEF to participate and support its work. Our members are film institutes, networks, companies and organisations.

We welcome interest of new members who strongly believe in doing the work to actively create a strictly anti-racist, more gender equal, diverse, and inclusive European Film Industry. We are committed to a culture that is accountable with intersectionality at the basis of the work we do.

ARTEF's goal is to become a task force for change: by raising awareness, by offering education and insights, by suggesting revisions to regulations and practices, as well as to weather opposition from the industry — especially from those who habitually benefit from institutionalised racism.
