Showcasing Women Directors in La Coruña for Women’s Day

Each year on 8 March, International Women’s Day is dedicated to righting gender imbalance and reinforcing the visibility of women’s achievements.

To mark the 2016 edition, the Spanish Association of Women Filmmakers (CIMA) will bring together a group of Galician women filmmakers to discuss women and film.  A selection of award-winning short films will be screened and will be followed by a Q&A session. The shorts include: Conversa cunha muller morta by Sonia Méndez (EWA member) Mijau by Olaia Sendón, reStart by Olga Osorio, Cuida a auga by Virginia Curiá, Cruz Piñón  by Xisela Franco e Asuntos Domésticos by Alexia Muiños (EWA member), all of them with outstanding festival careers.

In Spain, CIMA data shows that only 8% of films produced in 2008 were diirected by a woman, much lower than the European average of 21% (data from the EWA NETWORK, 2016).

The screenings will be on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of March at Forum Metropolitano de A Coruña, with the support of the Council of La Coruña.

Q&A and debate with the directors on Friday 4th March 2016 at 20:15.
