On October 8th in the beautiful Slovenian coastal town of Piran, the European and Mediterranean Film Festival (FEMF) organised a very interesting conference to debate the situation of Women in Film in the European context.
Jelka Stergel, Slovenian Film Centre and Eurimages Gender Equality group opened the conference in Slovenian and presented the 2 guest speakers: Maya Weiss and Alexia Muiños.
The renowned Slovenian director, Maya Weiss, presented the situation of women filmmakers in Slovenia, including a personal research on gender imbalance in the national industry.
EWA's deputy director Alexia Muiños exposed recent achievements as the declaration adopted at the high-level conference “Women in today's film industry: gender issues. Can we do better?", held in Sarajevo on August 14th. This historic declaration calls for policies to counter the gender imbalance in the European audiovisual industry. First findings of the pan-European Research on gender, presented in Venice, were also commented during the conference and some other actions EWA-Network is carrying out on this field.
Among the audience, we had the pleasure to see Slovenian filmmaker Sonja Prosenc whose film "Drevo" premiered in Karlovy Vary winning the FIPRESCI Award, members of the organization of the festival alongside international audience of fillm lovers.
