I SEMINAR Women professionals in Film &TV.  Observatory of Equality of the Spanish RTVE Corporation

 

EWA Network was proud to attend the I Seminar of Women in Film & TV organized by the Spanish TV National Corporation. This first seminar, was held in Madrid on May 4. EWA Network was represented by its Director of Programmes, Alexia Muiños.

 

Opened by the president of the Spanish TV coportation D. José Manuel Pérez Tornero and with a Keynote speech by the General Manager of the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Visuales (ICAA), Beatriz Navas, the symposium started early, to welcome many representatives who arrived from every corner in Spain.

9:30-11:00. Table 1: Women's Networks

The first round table was moderated by the President of the Observatorio de Igualdad de RTVE, Concepción Cascajosa and consisted of a panel discussion where the main female networks working in Spain, who shared best practices and point out some missing points in the current programmes. We are delighted to see EWA members Giovanna Ribes, Cecilia Ibañez, Carme Puche and Kristina Zorita in the discussion.

The second discussion revolved around challenges that female professionals were facing. EWA member Lara Vilanova spoke in behalf of the Association of Cinematographers of Spain.

Myriam Ballesteros, President of MIA (Woman and Animation).
Anahí Beholi, Executive member of the Actors Union, who opened up the intersectional discussion, bringing the point of view of  minorities .
Azucena de la Fuente, Executive Board of ACCIÓN (Asociation of Film directors).
Ana Hormaetxea Ibarbengoetxea, President of EHGEP (Scriptwriters of the Basque Country) and board of directors of FAGA  (Foro de Asociaciones de Guionistas Audiovisuales) dropped the subject of the so called female gaze, allegedly required for female dramas.

Carlota Álvarez Basso, Co-founder of Festival Internacional de Cine hecho por Mujeres and RAMPA (Red Abierta de Mujeres Profesionales del Audiovisual).
Mariola Cubells, representative of the Spanish Film Journalists
Gabriela Garcés Santamaría, Director and founder of the programme Coofilm (Collaborative Residencies Colaborativas for female filmmakers) and Co-delegate of conciliation in CIMA.
Alexia Muiños Ruiz, Director of Programmes of European Women's Audiovisual (EWA) Network presented the initiatives that EWA Network offers to female filmmakers and an overview of what the last 9 years have meant for the fight for gender equity. You can read here her speech (In Spanish) .
