EWA TALKS: a masterclass with Christina Sulebakk

We are delighted with hosting HBO MAX EMEA General Manager Christina Sulebakk as a special guest in a conversation with EWA members

Sulebakk replaced former HBO Europe CEO in July 2020, before taking oversight of HBO Max in EMEA towards the end of 2020. Sulebakk will review her life & career facts and will give some insight on pursuing a career in TV. After the dialogue, a Q&A with the audience will follow.

Ch ristina Sulebakk is the General Manager of HBO Max EMEA, having been appointed to the position in January 2021.

In this role, she is responsible for the leadership and growth of HBO Max in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and its future expansion across the region. HBO Max is now available in the Nordics and Spain following launches in 2021 and is scheduled to enter a further 21 European territories in 2022.

In 2012, as EVP Marketing & Sales Officer, Christina successfully established HBO Nordic, HBO’s first streaming service outside of the US. In 2015 she was promoted to EVP, CMO and Head of Distribution for HBO Europe and in July 2020, was appointed General Manager of HBO Europe.

During her time at the company, Christina has played a transformational role, launching streaming services HBO España (2016), HBO Go in Central and Eastern Europe (2017-2018) and HBO Portugal (2019) before
developing the go-to market strategy for HBO Max in Latin America (2021).

After graduating with a master’s degree in Film and Media Studies at Copenhagen University, Christina worked for a Nordic children’s and youth film festival. In 2005 she joined Canal+ where she became Head of
Marketing and in 2009 launched the sports channel Canal9.

In 2021, Christina was awarded the ‘Woman in Series’ prize by Series Mania, recognizing her career and contribution to the industry. In the same year, Christina was named in The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the 20 most powerful women in global entertainment.
