Ada Solomon is taking over as EWA Network's new President

We are proud to announce Ada Solomon as new EWA Network Executive President, taking over from film director Isabel de Ocampo.

Over the past years, Ada  has already been involved in many activities with EWA Network, such as moderating the debate on Gender Representation in European Films in Berlin 2014, the masterclass at EWA members’ annual gathering in 2017 and the mentoring scheme for emerging women producers in Trieste in 2018.

Born in Bucharest, Ada started her career in advertising, building on the new opportunities in Romania in the wild capitalism of the ‘90’s. In ’93, she switched to film production as Production manager, Executive Producer in Domino Film working on Romanian & International productions with great names such as Charlotte Rampling, Quincy Jones, Jeremy Irons, Fanny Ardant, Franco Zeffirelli, The Stomp etc.

In 2004, Ada Solomon opens together with Avi Karpick the film production company Hi Film. Since then, she produced & coproduced over 50 films, won over 180 awards around the world in major festivals like Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, Sarajevo. Ada coproduced with over 15 countries around Europe & sold her films in over 50 territories around the worl, continuing to serve with passion as executive producer for TV series & foreign productions working with directors such as Dominik Graf or Hermine Huntgeburth.

Her latest achievements as producer include the Special Mention Sebastiano in San Sebastian, Special Mention in CPH:PIX, Best Debut in FIFF Namur, Best Director in Auteur Film Festival Belgrade, Special Jury Prize CinEast for Soldiers. Story from Ferentari , FEDEORA award in Karlovy Vary for MariÈ›a , Silver Leopard in Locarno & Silver Astor in Mar del Plata for Scarred Hearts , Golden Bear for Child’s Pose by Calin Netzer, Silver Bear for Best Director for Aferim! by Radu Jude & the contribution as executive producer to the Oscar nominated & multi European Academy Awards winner Toni Erdmann.

Ada also received the honorary European Film Academy Award for Contribution of the development of European Co-productions - Eurimages Award in European Film Awards 2013 & Central European Initiative Award 2018 for interpreting the contemporary reality & the dialogue between cultures in Alpe-Adria Trieste IFF. Ada worked both in feature & documentaries with the main figures of the Romanian New Cinemaas: Cristian Nemescu, Radu Jude, Razvan Radulescu, Adrian Sitaru, Alexandru Solomon. She also produced debut features of emerging filmmakers as Paul Negoescu, Cristi Iftime, Ivana Mladenovic, Stefan Constantinescu, Adriano Valerio, Federico Bondi, Martha Berman.

Ada is the initiator of NexT Int’l Film Festival in Bucharest, an EAVE National Coordinator, advisory member of the board of Romanian Center for Contemporary Dance, member of the board of the National Cultural Fund and member of the board of the European Film Academy.
