Women directors in Nordic Film

November 09 2015 Oslo

Liv Ulmann and Agnieska Holland shared their experiences as young directors to launch an event in Oslo on the way forward for women in the industry.

Holly Aylett, EWA's Head of Research, was invited to contribute  a pan-European perspective based on EWA's ongoing research, alongside the heads of the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian film institutes, Petri Kemppinenen, Head of the Nordic Film Fund, and speakers including directors, academics, film critics and grassroots womens' groups.

Advances which had been made in the 80s and 90s had gone into regression since the millennium. Whilst Swedish targets to get 50% of national funding to female directors had successfully been achieved and were producing results, this strategy was not common to all Nordic countries, and measures needed to be taken to ensure gender equality.
