"Touch me Not" by Adina Pintilie wins the Golden Bear 2018
Touch Me Not, a film about fear of intimacy and achieving sexual liberation was the winner of the Golden Bear, the Berlin film festival's top award. Adina Pintilie's debut is a Romania/Germany /Czech Republic /Bulgaria /France co-production. Besides the main award, the international Jury awarded the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize to Twarz (Mug) by Polish Małgorzata Szumowska, a film that explores bigotry in its story about a young man forced to undergo face transplant surgery after he is disfigured in an accident.
The Panorama Audience Award for best documentary went to The Silence of Others from Emmy-winning directors Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar which looks at the battle for justice in Spain after a 1977 amnesty law prohibited the prosecution of perpetrators who worked under the country's Fascist regime. Oscar-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodovar executive produced.
Berlinale was wrapped up with the major prizes to women filmmakers despite the lower number of female-directed films in the competition. The Golden Bear for Best Short Film went to "The Men Behind the Wall" by Israel's Ines Moldavsky and the Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury goes to Sekala Niskala (The Seen and Unseen) by "Sekala Niskala" (The Seen and Unseen) by Kamila Andin a Indonesia / Netherlands / Australia / Qatar coproduction .
