SouthMed WiA results

SouthMed WiA announces the results of the evaluation of the proposals submitted to its 1st call.

SouthMed WiA, a project co-funded by the European Union under the regional programme MedFilm, announces the results of the evaluation of the proposals submitted to its 1st call.

Following the close of the 1st call on September 15th, the SouthMed WiA evaluation committee has proceed to the eligibility check and further evaluation of the applications received.

Of the 69 applications received within the deadline, the SouthMed WiA Evaluation Committee has evaluated the 21 proposals which complied with the eligibility criteria.

On the basis of the evaluation, 4 projects have been selected for the award of the sub-grants:

- Rewriting The Story About VAW: Media Students Creating Tipping Points coordinated by HarassMap, Egypt.
- FEMMES: Paroles et Cinéma coordinated by Cinémathèque de Tanger, Morocco.
- Breaking taboos and changing the image of women in audiovisual sector in Arab Region coordinated by Muntada – The Arab Forum for Education, Sexuality and Reproductive Health, Palestine.
- One Woman Show coordinated by Wasabi, Tunisia.

With these four grants, SouthMed WiA has allocated the funds available for this call (340,000 €).

The project SouthMed WiA, is designed to promote and support gender equality in the audiovisual sector, contributing to sustainable development and cultural diversity, in seven Southern Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia.

The four projects selected will be implemented from October 2017 to February 2019, and will aim at: supporting the understanding of media professionals about gender-sensitivity and the use audiovisual products that promote an inclusive culture that has no tolerance towards violence against women; training professionals and students on sexual rights and women’s bodily integrity in the audiovisual sector; raising awareness towards cinema made by women and encouraging women to engage in the audiovisual sector; supporting the visibility of up-and-coming women leaders in the audiovisual sector as role models for young people, especially girls, to foster their future professional interest in the film sector.

SouthMed WiA - Towards Greater Gender Equality: Promoting the Role and Image of Women in the Southern Mediterranean Audiovisual Sector was launched on February 1st, 2017 for a thirty-month period. It is implemented by a consortium led by Interarts in Spain in partnership with three non-governmental organizations: Culture & Media Agency Europe (CUMEDIAE) in Belgium, Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) in Italy, Screen Institute Beirut (SIB) in Lebanon and the Superior School of Audiovisual and Cinema (ESAC) in Tunisia.
