Only 4 women directors in the official competition at the 2018 Berlinale

Women presence in top festivals is still low. At this year’s Berlinale only 21% of the films are directed by women.

Polish Malgorzata Szumowska’s Twarz, Laura Bispuri’s Daughter of mine, Emily Atef’s 3 days in Quiberon  and Adina Pintilie’s Touch me not are the films competing for the Golden Bear.
Malgorzata Szumowska is almost a regular with the Berlinale as her film "Elles" was included at Panorama section in 2012 and in 2013 her film "In the Name of" was in the official competition.
Italian Laura Bispuri was already in the Berlinale with her debut "Sworn Virgin" in 2015.
EWA member, Diana Toucedo will be present at the panorama section with her film Thirty Souls
Isabel Coixet’s last film, The Bookshop , after haveing received the top awards at the Goya Ceremony, will be screened in the Berlinale Special gala
