DoP Elisabet Prandi’s work premieres at IFFR

Director of Photography and EWA member Elisabeth Prandi is shown working with legendary Barcelona-based director Pere Portabella, in the film "Informe general II. El nuevo rapto de Europa" which will have its premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam - IFFR TODAY.

This work is described as a cinematographic symposium on the current political crisis of parliamentary democracy and the nation-state, how neoliberalist capitalism thrives on this, and what is to be done.

The film is an essential update of Portabella's 1977 film, "Informe general sobre algunas questiones of general interes para una proyección pública", documenting the last days of the Franco regime and focussing on how Spain could find its way to democracy. To celebrate this world premiere, IFFR will present a select retrospective of the films of Portabella (born 1929), who began directing his own films in the mid-1960's after producing the films of Carlos Saura and Marco Ferreri, as well as Luis Buñuel's "Viridiana".

In addition to the selection of films directed by Pere Portabella, IFFR will present an overview of the Escuela de Barcelona. This term is used to describe the Nouvelle Vague-inspired group of filmmakers from Barcelona who tried to make films that contrasted with the official cinema from Madrid in the Franco Years .
