39% of women among Academy of motion Arts new members

Escalating a new record of 774 new members, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences makes an effort to achieve greater diversity and balance.

Legendary Golden Girls actress Betty White, 95, is the eldest new member and Elle fanning, 19,  is the youngest one.

The Academy reported that the list, which represents talent from 57 countries, is 39 percent female and 30 percent people of color. Seven of the Academy branches — actors, casting directors, costume designers, documentary, executives and film editors — invited more women then men.

 

Directors Aida Begić, Emmanuelle Bercot, Patricia Cardoso, Nana Dzhordzhadze, Ildykó Enyedi, Jessica Hausner, Joanna Hogg, Ann Hui, Christine Jeffs, Sharon Maguire, Márta Mészáros, Jocelyn Moorhouse, Kira Muratova, Cate Shortland, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Paula van der Oest, Susanna White are among these new members alongside documentalists Natalia Almada,Mirra Bank,Diane Becker, Ruby Chen, Keiko Deguchi, Abigail E. Disney, Diana El Jeiroudi, Jihan El-Tahri, Geeta Gandbhir , Lina Gopaul, Nadia Hallgren,Tabitha Jackson,Kristi Jacobson,Judy Kibinge,Penny Lane,Grace Lee, Lisa Leemanm, Audrey Marrs, Hilla Medalia, Justine Nagan, Joanna Natasegara,Marilyn Ness,Alanis Obomsawin,Eva Orner,Heloísa Passos, Leanne Pooley, Marina Zenovich.
